Hospital Care

HBH Senior Living’s fully licensed, 97-bed hospital is designed for those who require a high level of medical care and support, including respite care. We also cater for people with dementia or cognitive decline. Our qualified and dedicated staff combines Christian compassion with the highest standards of nursing care and we’re proud to have earned the highest level of certification from the Ministry of Health.

Care philosophy

Care and support to live life to the full whatever your health and disability challenges.

Living space

Rooms are larger than most (average 17 metres square and most include a full ensuite), and residents are encouraged to bring as much of their own furniture and belongings as possible. Most rooms open onto a deck or patio and all rooms have a built-in wardrobe, vanity and storage and are pre-wired for Sky, phone and Internet. Each of the four units has its own dining room, lounges/activity rooms and sitting areas.

Level of care

For older people or those with disabilities who have significant medical issues and require assistance with most or all personal care and activities of daily living. This includes people with mild to significant dementia or cognitive issues who have not been assessed as needing a dementia unit.

Community

A mini bus is available to take residents on weekly bus trips. Volunteers help with a range of activities as well as friendship and companionship, and HBH Senior Living is a member of the Eden Alternative, a philosophy of care based on helping older people to have a life of purpose, meaning and variety.

Wellbeing

We offer chaplaincy and weekly church services, weekly Happy Hour, library trolley and hairdresser, as well as a range of daily activities, regular social functions and celebrations. For those with green fingers, gardening opportunities are available and animal lovers can enjoy our resident pets. Residents may also be able to bring their own pet. (please enquire).

Industry endorsements

Our hospital has been awarded four years certification (the highest level of certification available) from the Ministry of Health. HBH Senior Living is also an accredited Eden Alternative facility, having achieved ten out of ten Eden Principles.

Features of our care

  • Managed by the Director of Nursing, with each unit managed by a Registered Nurse.
  • Support with personal care and supervision and management of medical conditions.
  • Three GPs – routine check-ups every month or as medically required.
  • Regular family meetings with senior staff to review care.

Premium charges

As a non-profit organisation, HBH aims to be as affordable as possible. Our premium fees are some of the lowest in Auckland. A premium is a charge over and above the daily fee set by the Ministry of Health, for services that fall outside of those contracted by the DHB. At the hospital, our premium charges relate to the size of the room and the facilities available.

  • All standard rooms have a self-contained toilet and hand basin and are charged at the daily fee set by the Ministry of Health.
  • Our premium rooms include a full private en-suite bathroom.
  • The premium charges range from $46 to $67 per day, inclusive of GST.

What do our residents and families love about our hospital care?

The caregivers help and join in doing things I like to do like helping me create rose petals for my sister-in-law’s upcoming wedding.

In every little way, we care.

Dear everyone,

Our sincere appreciation for the superb help and kindness shown to Marguerite in the short time she was with you. We can’t speak highly enough of every facet of your care and attention and all the staff we dealt with were marvellous and went over and beyond the call of duty.

Yours sincerely
Graeme
