Alert Level 2 update: 28 May 2020

Updated guidelines for visiting

Reduced hours on Monday of Queens Birthday weekend

On Monday, 1st June (Queens Birthday) visiting will be in the afternoon only 1pm to 4:30pm.

Slight change to visiting hours from next week

From Tuesday 2nd June afternoon visiting hours will end at 4:30pm.

If you arrive at 4:30pm you can stay for half an hour, but no-one will be admitted after 4:30pm.

We have analysed our data and very few people visit after 5pm, and our staff are needing to get on with care duties at this time, so we have decided to make this change.

Future changes to visiting

While we are now at Level 2, we are continuing with our screening and reduced visiting hours for now.

We are reviewing this weekly as information and advice changes. We are likely to move more slowly to loosen restrictions than you might experience at work or in the community – this is due to the high-risk status of our residents in terms of the impact of Covid-19. If our residents were exposed, they are much more likely to be seriously ill or die, so even though the risk of infection is declining, it is still there, and we want to keep our residents as safe as possible.

In the Waikato care facility that had Covid-19 cases, a family member who did not know they were sick passed it on to their relative. The 30 minute, 2 x per week restriction we have at the moment is because the evidence is that the longer someone is with another person, the higher the risk of catching something if the person they are with is ill.

Level 1 Visiting

We have not yet had information about what level 1 will look like. However, it is likely that there will continue to be some visiting restrictions, although not as many as currently, and definitely continued health screening and sign in. We are working on automating our sign in and temperature taking to speed this up.
